A&H dLive S7000 - Advance Scenes

Hello all! Trying to advance scenes on the Allen & Heath dLive S7000 using the Bome Box. Roland DP-2 is connected via ¼" to a AudioFront MIDI Expression. MIDI Expression then connects to Bome Box via MIDI cable and USB. PoE out of Bome Box to Network port on the rear of the S7000 Surface.

On the Bome Box website, we are showing connected on the Allen & Heath MIDI page to the A&H MixRack. I’m also seeing a light next to the MIDI connection on the Bome Box when I press the DP-2 pedal. On The MIDI Expression app, I’m seeing connection: Channel 4, CC 64, Release 0, Pressed 127. The S7000 surface is set to Main MIDI Channels 1-5. Go CC Number is 64. Go CC Value is 127. Send MIDI is disabled. Receive MIDI is enabled.

What am I missing?

Hi and welcome to the Bome community!

For MIDI translation, you need to also purchase Bome MIDI Translator Pro as the trial version projects will not run on BomeBox.

With that said, I’ve included a project file that should work as long as you do not modify it. If you have the purchased version of Bome MIDI Translator Pro then you can modify it as you would like as projects in the purchased version includes signing so will run on BomeBox.

The project file has one translator that takes CC64 on MIDI CH 4 as input. It outputs banks change and program change to select the next scene as defined in the A&H dLive MIDI Protocol Document.

On my BomeBox my aliases are set up as follows. You will need to modify them to reflect the devices you are using.

For me, I send from my computer and to the S7000 emulator.

You can learn more about aliases from this tutorial.

The translator calculates the current scene and increments it as well as calculating the proper bank.

Here are the rules of translator 1.0. I use ga for the current scene and gb for that Allen&Heath MIDI channel.

// increment Scene
ga=ga+1
tt=ga&127
// set bank number
pp=ga/128
// add midi channel
oo=176|gb
qq=192|gb

Here is the project file.

Hi Steve,

Thanks so much for the quick reply. I’m attaching screenshots. The dLive S7000 is still not connecting, and I’m not sure what I’m missing. I’ve purchased the full license of the MIDI Translator Pro.

Thanks!
Patrick

Your aliases need setting up to the proper devices. This will be assigned differently when running your project on your BomeBox or your computer. In my case, my BomeBox name is “FOH” and I have a MIDI Baby 3 pedal for my pedal and my dLive is called “dLive Mix Rack”.

You define them in this menu.

You can learn more about aliases from this tutorial.

Using the Bome Network Tool, I enable Remote Direct MIDI ports as follows with the green switches.

Hello! I am still struggling to connect these devices. I have tried every connection, but still have the S7000 showing up as ‘Pending’ under MIDI Output in the Web portal.

In the Bome Network Tool, I don’t see the option for ‘Remote Direct MIDI’.

I’ve attached additional screenshots. I’m sure I’m missing something stupid, but I cannot figure it out.

Thanks!
Patrick

Hi, I just saw this in my moderators inbox. Sorry for the delay! Did you get this worked out?

Unfortunately, we have not. I know I must be missing something easy, but I cannot figure it out.

OK, first show me a screenshot what your Allen&Heath page shows on your BomeBox.
It should look something like the below. My BomeBox name is “FOH”.

If it shows up there, then in the Bome Network tool. Click on your BomeBox name

Then you should see something like this.

Click on the switch to turn it green.

Then in Bome MIDI Translator Pro you should be able to select the port. This is considered a Remote Direct MIDI port.

You may need to do the same for the MIDI pedal you have attached to the BomeBox as input.

Let’s see where you are with this and then determine where to go.

If you cannot see the S7000 on your A&H page, you may need to add it manually by provide its IP address and desired network port.
For example “192.168.0.136:48150”

Hi Steve!

I’ve attached a screenshot. While the webpage says the A&H is connected, when I go into the Remote Direct MIDI page, the toggle turns red instead of green.

Thanks,

Patrick

Hi

Could you show your ports page on the BomeBox so that we can resolve this issue?

Also go to the overview page and show a screenshot.

Finally remove this checkmark on the A&H page.

Hi,

According to this article it looks like a Surface is a client like the BomeBox so I don’t think you can connect the BomeBox (a client) to a Surface (another client). You will need to connect to a MixRack.

In this case, you can recall scenes with BomeBox (to the MixRack) but not cues (to the surface).

You should double check this information with A&H as they are the experts on their devices.

Hi Steve,

We have reconnected to the MixRack, and I’ve attached 2 screenshots. Still not able to connect Remote Direct MIDI.

Thanks!

You are also running a MT Pro project on your BomeBox. In this case your project should only be running on your computer so shut down your project on your BomeBox. The project on on your BomeBox is taking control of the dLive port. Once the project on your BomeBox has stopped, you should be able to connect to your Remote Direct MIDI port on your computer.

Great. I have removed the project. I am still seeing red “pending” on Remote Direct MIDI.

In MIDI Translator Pro, I’m now seeing MIDI in to Router OUT flashing when I press the pedal. So—progress??

Yes, a little progress. Now remove the routes from your midi router.

In Bome Network, turn off and then back on the switch for the “RMT dLive S7000” and also for your 'BomeBox DIN" port (assuming that is where you have your pedal plugged in.

In Bome MIDI Translator Pro assign the alias “MIDI Pedal” to “BomeBox :BomeBox DIN”.
Assign the alias “S7000” to “BomeBox:RMT dLive S7000”.

This can be done using the MIDI Menu.

Then open the log window

And select in the log window Incoming, Outgoing, MIDI IN and MIDI OUT. This will allow you to see the MIDI messages.

You should then be able to push the pedal to see what is happening.
