Arturia Beatstep main encoder problem

Hi,
I have an Arturia Beatstep and am trying to convert the main encoder values to system volume plus/minus. The problem is I can’t get my head around the values the encoder is sending, it’s CC#7 65 and 63 for right/left if you rotate it just one detent, but it gets chaotic as you rotate it at different speeds. Here’s screenshots of what MIDI capture displays for right and left rotations. One would think the CC number increases/decreases the faster you rotate, so >=65 for right and <=63 for left, but there are some stray values shown that don’t fit this rule. Is my unit just faulty? Anyone familiar with Beatstep can shed some light on this behavior? What would be the proper rule set for this encoder in order to convert it to just volume+/- no matter the speed you’re rotating with? Would appreciate any help, thanks!

Hi, and welcome back!

Indeed it looks like you have a flakey encoder. I just tested the following project using my Beatstep and it works just fine.

Beatstep - Volume.bmtp (2.4 KB)

Thanks so much for your help, Steve! Pity the encoder is faulty, not sure if it’s enough to replace the encoder itself or it’s a deeper problem with the processor glitching…

I would look at the cost of repair vs the cost of buying a new unit. If the other encoders are also misbehaving, perhaps it is a processing problem but I doubt it as it looks like a classic encoder problem.
