Bome MT Pro to the rescue!

I began teaching vocal technique back in the early ‘80s. Having poor keyboard skills, I relied on Bars n Pipes Pro, a sweet little MIDI sequencer, running on a Commodore Amiga 500, to create and perform the ‘vocalises’, aka arpeggiated scales, used in my teaching. In 2010 I retired from that endeavor and moth-balled my Amiga, anticipating that I’d never teach again.

Fast forward to 2025… My daughter wants to take voice lessons again and my granddaughter wants to start taking them. What could I say? I’d be happy to give them lessons. But there was a big problem with that! I still have the knowledge to teach from, but without BnB, and an Amiga to run it on, I had no clear idea how to put it into practice.

Now, there’s a very nice emulator, Amiga Forever, available to run those old Amiga programs on Windows 10 hardware. And Bars and Pipes Pro can be obtained without too much difficulty. So, that’s where I began my quest to return to teaching. And frankly, it just wasn’t happening. I was frustrated, getting nowhere and ready to tell my girls that I couldn’t do it. Then Bome MT Pro came into my life…

Like any powerful piece of software, Bome MIDI Translator Pro has a challenging learning curve. It’s been a major undertaking bringing this project from conception to completion. Steve Caldwell, specifically, and the Bome Forum archives, in general, has been invaluable and irreplaceable in coaching this quest from its fumbling beginning to such a satisfying end. Now it’s time to post the results of Steve’s and my efforts to the forum for all to see and share. I sincerely hope it helps and/or encourages at least one other MIDI creative in some small way.
