Bome network license for another PC issues

So I’ve been using Bome Network Pro on a Win 10 desktop. I cloned my system to a laptop some time ago, uninstalled BNP. Now I want to install BNP on this laptop and run it in a similar manner as on desktop, meaning connecting to same remote host to which desktop connects (over the internet) only using a different local surface controller.

I downloaded BNP from my Bome account and installed it. It picked up the same license key and somehow retained all the same settings as on desktop, including remote host address. But none of the connections work.

Is all that caused by the fact that my system is cloned and now BNP thinks it’s running on the same desktop? What’s the proper way to activate license on another PC? How to tell BNP that this is indeed another PC?

Can two BNP instances be connected to the same remote BNP host at the same time?

Thanks!

Hi,

If you cloned your old system, then now you probably have 2 systems on your network with the same name. You will need to change the computer name on your newly created system. Also, since they are on separate computers, your device names and routing may need to change on the new system.

For Bome Network, you can also assign your new device a new name (for Bome Network purposes only) on you Network Settings page

Click on the cog Icon, then Network Settings and enter the new name as shown in the screenshot below.

Your network Pro license should be good for up to 5 computers and unlimited BomeBoxes on your network.

I changed that PC name right after cloning.

And I did change the device name in Network settings of BNP.

Any idea why this doesn’t work?

Should license key (the actual license numbers string) be literally the same on all 5 machines?

Yes and the user name should be exact as well.

Can two instances be connected to a 3rd one at the same time? For example, can instances B and C which are on the same LAN, be connected to A which is remote over the internet?

I believe so, however you will need two separate connections over the Internet then.

Also note that we don’t generally recommend using Bome Network over the Internet – as you know, it requires some advanced network knowledge and some tweaks in Bome Network. You will need to turn auto discovery off and connect to it manually by IP address instead.

Yes, auto discovery is Off.

Is it even possible to report more than 1 IP address by a device? Can you give an example please?

Also, both instances of BNP in my LAN should have different ports set in the Network page of Settings and forwarded in the router, correct?

An example is if you have WiFi and ethernet both on and you have another computer that has a choice of connecting via either path. It is likely that the IP of the WiFi would be different than the IP of the ethernet if using DHCP.

I restored BNP on Notebook to factory settings and now it connects to remote BNP, but via OpenVPN only…

Auto Discovery is OFF.

In my example above if I don’t want to use OpenVPN, how should I configure port forwarding?

Right now my instances A and B forwarded through port 37000 in their respected routers and 37000 is set in Network settings of both BNP.

What port should C be set and forwarded to, if B and C are on the same LAN behind same router?

I don’t think this will work if you use NAT on the remote end.

if A and B have different IP addresses, then you should be able to connect to them directly (also using port 37000).

Just to make sure we’re on the same page. A is remote with port 37000 forwarded. B and C are local under same LAN and same router, where 3700 is forwarded to B. Right now B connects to A either via Domain name or OpenVPN. I’m trying to also connect C to A without OpenVPN. Is that possible? How?

If you need port forwarding to connect B to A, then I don’t think that you can also connect C to A.

It seems to me that a VPN will greatly simplify your network setup. If A, B, and C are all in the same VPN, they’ll all see each other using Bome Network’s auto discovery.
