Looking forward to the release of the Bome Box 2. Any possibility of adding a 9vdc barrel connection in the future? I personally use my BB on a guitar pedalboard, but with a hack-job power converter. Just a thought…
Hi, and thanks for reaching out.
At this late stage, it is unlikely that any major design changes will be made to BomeBox 2. However, if your 9v power supply provides enough current (a 9 v battery will only supply maybe 100-200ma of continus current), then you could use something like this. Note that since BomeBox also provided power through it’s USB host port to devices, I would recommend that your 9 v power source provides at least 1 amp of current to your BomeBox.

I don’t think the link to this product is a good recommendation. It doesn’t appear to step-down a 9vdc barrel connection to 5vdc USB connection, and if connected as such would fry my new BomeBox 2.
My use case may be particularly niche, I don’t know how many would need a guitar pedal type 9vdc barrel connection, but thought it would add to its flexibility.
When I asked Rufus (on the amazon site), it said it provides USB C 5v and 3 amps so it should work. Here is what Rufus said when asked about this item.
The Alrhso USB-C to DC adapter you’re viewing provides 5V at 3A, which is suitable for low-power devices like LED lamps, small fans, and other accessories. This is a standard safe voltage for most USB-C applications.

“Rufus” also says: No, you cannot safely plug a 9VDC 500mA power source into this Alrhso DC Female to USB C Power Cord.
This adapter is designed for 5V maximum voltage and would be damaged by 9VDC input. The product specifications clearly state it’s rated for 5 volts maximum, while your power source provides 9 volts - nearly double the safe voltage.
Using this combination could damage both the adapter and any connected USB-C device.
I stand corrected, so please search for other adapter options that will step down the voltage. Again, the hardware design is pretty much complete on the BomeBox 2 and I believe it is going through hardware compliance testing now across many countries.
In the meantime, I will check with Florian, if the BomeBox 2 has any overvoltage protection.

Update:
BomeBox 2 will have overvoltage and overcurrent protection but will still need 5v to operate. Anything out of spec will simply not power the BomeBox.
