BomeBox suddenly lagging

Hi Steve,

Since yesterday I’m having a serious issue with my BomeBox out of nowhere.

The Box worked fine but after a pause of playing for a couple of minutes it lagged by almost a second. Then suddenly it catched up with the notes played and worked as normal until it lagged again. Today the same thing. It does not help turning the box off and on. Sometimes single notes are lagging, sometimes not. Chords are always lagging. It’s changing all the time.

I could verify that no other hardware is involved. Moreover, when I bypass the BomeBox and access the sound box directly from the MIDI controller there are no lags.

I didn’t change any of my active presets, and I even deactivated all of them in the MIDI Translator, but nothing changed.

What do you think that is?

Alex

PS: I can send a video if necessary

Hi, could you:

  1. Diagram how your devices are connected.
  2. Share or PM me your project file?

Thanks!

Please note that problem persists even if all presets are deactivated.

DIN MIDI OUT of Studiologic Numa Compact 2x TO
DIN MIDI IN of Bome Box

DIN MIDI OUT of Bome Box TO
DIN MIDI IN of Ketron SD-2 Sound Expander

As far as your aliases - I assume you have My-Organ aliased to BomeBox DIN IN and My-Synths aliased to BomeBox DIN Out.

Is My Bitstream used for anything? If so, where does it play in?

Is BomeBox networked to anything either WiFi or ethernet?

Is anything else daisy chained of of MIDI DIN out beside your SD sound expander?

What version of BomeBox firmware are you running?
How are you powering the BomeBox?

Sorry for all of the questions, but this looks somewhat of a mystery. The only think I could think causing issues are:

  1. Your Note timer (which you say you disabled)
  2. The speed of your MIDI DIN connections which would be considerably slower than USB.
  3. Something on the network sending MIDI causing a larger load on processing power of your BomeBox.

Thank you, Steve, for your answer,

in which you remind me of the “My Bitstream” alias. In fact, I don’t use it anymore since a long time but it was still connected to the BomeBox by USB and now suddently caused the problem, meaning when I disconnect it the lagging is gone. I don’t even have it anymore in my (rather complex) diagram and that’s because I completely forgot about it, but I still left it connected “for probable future use”. Not a good idea.

So cause no. 3 is likely valid. The old Bitstream is a MIDI monster and can do very nasty things.

Thanks again, and have a nice day,
Alex

Let’s hope that is it then.
