When BMTP opens it asks me to assign missing ports. I check off “don’t ask again” . When I reopen the program, everything is good and it does not ask me again. But then when I go over to input/output port section I see that same port greyed out. Once I go there, I delete that greyed out port. So far so good? When I reopen the program once again, I am back to square one with the program asking me to assign the same port again. It is a vicious circle that will repeat over and over again. I have to leave the greyed out port in input/output for the program not to ask to assign ports on boot up.
Hi,
1 ) Remove any port references that are not present or defined as aliases in your project file. (.bmtp). This includes all translators, all presets, the project level definitions and the MIDI router.
2 ) Then remove MIDI aliases in settings. (.bmts)
If any opened project has port names that are not defined, it will prompt you again (because it thinks they are new aliases), so you must remove all references to those port names throughout the project file as well as the .bmts file. It will remember not to ask for them only if they are still defined in the .bmts file but not present.
I often run into this when opening other people’s project files, so I simply make sure I delete the alias definitions and as long as I don’t open the same project file again, I’m not prompted and they are not re-created.
Of course, if I open someone’s project file that has an alias (or unused port name) in it, I will get prompted again.
It’s a bit like alias garbage collection. Usually I just say ‘don’t ask again’ and then periodically I go to settings and clean up the aliases.
In summary:
Project (.bmtp) port name defined in aliases (.bmts) but not present → Will prompt you unless ‘Don’t ask again’
Project port name (.bmtp) not defined in aliases (.bmts) and not present → It will always prompt you because it has nothing to remember
Project port names all defined → No Prompt.
I hope this helps!
