Can't reset BOMEBOX after switching from DHCP master to client

Hi, I upgraded my bomebox to the latest firmware. It has been running well until recently. I have been able to log into the bomebox as it was set to DHCP master. I set it to DHCP client, and it no longer can be accessed, nor does it show up as a client on the network when connected via ethernet. I have tried using the reset with a USB to no avail. It simply will not reset. Unfortunately, it is no longer useable.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, the most common causes for this are.

  1. The serial number used on the file name is wrong maybe some letter O rather than number 0.
  2. The file name is wrong or maybe has two extensions. Windows may hide the extension so you may end up with a filename .txt.txt instead of just .txt
  3. Try a different thumb drive. For some reason, some don’t seem to work. I find that smaller capacity thumb drives work best for me.
  4. There is no DHCP master on the network.
  5. Try the other BomeBox ethernet port in case data is not getting through on the port you are using.
  6. Check the power light on the BomeBox as if there is not consistent power, it might be in a consistent boot cycle. Or try a different power source.

Let me know if any of these solutions help.

Thanks Steve,

I will try those. Yes, after I reset the SSID remains the one I had before. It seems to not be resetting. I will try the things you mentioned.

Thanks for the prompt response!

Hours and hours and hours on other USB sticks, file name confirmation, different hardware, used PoE to power, USB to power, on and on and on and it never ever ever resets. It’s a brick since I just hit save to take it from Master to Hotspot. Still retains my custom SSID. I have a show coming up and I have invested too much time in this. I have to resort to trusty CME even though 2.4 gHz has so much better range. Thanks for the help, anyhow.

OK, so you want ethernet as client and WiFi as hotspot. Is there an ethernet master on the network? Hotspot will only work if the ethernet is connected. Did you try hooking the ethernet side up to the POE out while your POE is on POE in. Maybe there is a bad data only connection on POE In?

Thank you! I did not do that. I will connect ethernet (I have a DHCP enabled router). I will try this in a couple of hours. Thanks Steve.

If that ends up being the problem, you can use the contact form to arrange for repair.

I connected the PoE port to ethernet power supply and the Ethernet out port to my router, and the BOMEBOX appeared on the network!! Thank you so much! I should have known better, but I think I was in a frustration loop and simply did not do such a common sense thing as that.

Thanks so much Steve!!

I’m glad I could help. In reality both ports should work so I would recommend getting in contact for a repair when you are not busy using it.
