dLive Surface Midi Recall via Mixrack

Hey there!
We connected Bomeboxes to two of our dLive Mixracks at the Monitorworld.
The only connection bomebox offers is the IP of the Mixrack and not the surface so we can’t do ‘surface midi’ just ‘mixrack midi’. Is there a workaround?

Why? Surface midi allows to auto select the last recalled scene, which is very easy to store updates to it. With mixrack midi it recalls the scene but without the ‘select’ following.

Hi and welcome to the Bome community!

I’m not sure of this because I don’t have a surface to test with, but I think you can only connect to either the MixRack or the surface at any given time. I think for the surface you need to manually connect using its IP address and port number as it is not self discovered.

You can check with Allen&Heath on this. I reviewed the documentation and this is where I got my assumption.

If connected to the surface, I believe messages are passed between the surface and the MixRack to keep them in sync. I think this is done on a different network connection.

Hey Steve! Thank you for your welcome!

I did a factory reset and tried to connect the surface manually but it says ‘enabled, unreachable (manual)’ and doesn’t do any connection. I can see it in the director app and ping it but bomebox can’t connect to it. Is there any update to the V2 Midi Implementation already?

Could I see a screenshot of your BomeBox A&H web page and also a screenshot of how it is connected (network connections) with dLive director?

I don’t think BomeBox will connect to dLive Director as they are both clients, but you should check with A&H. BomeBox should be able to connect to a server like a MixRack.

See this article on the A&H forum.

You got me wrong there, I don’t want to connect to director but wanted to describe the surface also shows up in the network.

Allen&Heath dLive Midi V2.0 allows to recall surface scenes via a connection to the surface, that’s what works fine with the A&H TCP/IP driver with a connection to the surface - this comes with a lot of other problems why we switched to Bomebox for control. Is there a way to get a connection to the surface with bomebox with an update?

If Allen&Heath says you should be able to connect to the surface then yes, it should connect. The BomeBox firmware has supported A&H for some time, so I don’t think that should be a problem. The latest firmware for BomeBox is below 1.5.4

Set up BomeBox ethernet as follows:

Set up your Surface as follows:

Or gateway maybe should be the same as the BomeBox but I don’t think it will matter as long as they are on the same network.

If it doesn’t automatically connect, then manually connect it using

“192.168.1.71:51328”

This ensures both devices are on the same network and you are using the right port.

Hey Steve,

I set the bomebox to

192.168.1.73
255.255.255.0

it still shows followiing and no connection possible  any ideas?

Did you try manually adding it as shown below? (Port 51328)

“192.168.1.71:51328”

Have you talked to Allen&Heath?

That’s exactly what I tried!

I disabled the connection to the mixrack, hit manual and put the ip including port as you wrote but it still shows what I sent in the screenshot.
The product Manager of A&H Daniel Lauer said, you might not implement the V2 Midi Version. But I’m not quite sure if that’s the reason we don’t get the connection to the surface.

OK, I’m not sure if the protocol has changed significantly with V2 version. I will see if our developer can get in touch with Daniel. But your screen shot does not show 51328

It should look like this however with a different IP address than mine. After adding the IP and port manually I renamed the device by clicking edit and entering the name I want.

Also do not enable auto Create MIDI routes.

In my case I’m simulating my A&H device using Puredata application on my computer. I don’t have any A&H device in my studio to test with.

Hey Steve,

Also do not enable auto Create MIDI routes.

This made it work!

Thank you very much!

Awesome thanks! Please mark as solved.
