So, I played a show with a rather complex setup that went flawlessly, so to begin with, I just want to say how happy my Bome Box has made me! It allows me to essentially God Mode nearly every device I have to do the kind of unconventional MIDI stuff that just isn’t available off the shelf. Pretty incredible thin you’ve made here, people!
Immediately following the show, I decided that I wanted to take this concept and pair it down even more. So, I have decided to ditch the MIDI Controller and Arturia Microfreak and necessary peripherals for those connections and just shift to using one, main synth in my setup.
Sticking with the brand, I decided that my final synth of choice would be the Arturia MiniFreak. So, now my setup would simply be my MiniFreak and my Bome Box. I am trying to migrate functionality over to this new synth, but it is not as straightforward as I thought it might be. I’ll attach the main project file that I used to run the former setup. I’m just doing something wrong right out of the gate here. I’m able to get some things working, but other things just aren’t talking to each other properly. If someone might be able to take a look under the hood and point my in the right direction, I would be hugely appreciative.
The main thing I’m experiencing now is mostly just hearing the notes played on the MiniFreak (original note info not being swallowed). I’m not sure if it’s something in the settings of the MF or in BMT.
Wow. Quick update here. I managed to get the notes the stop sounding on the synth by changing local MIDI off, but I now don’t here any other sounds. Really manageable and not the end of the world. I can work with this, but it’s still just not the gold standard, I guess.
I see you are using the following aliases (although I haven’t assigned them on my system. Which devices do you intend to use and which devices are you elliminating?
Some of the presets have different input devices. You might want to redefine the selected devices for each preset (after assigning aliases). The same is true for output device selection by preset.
For more information about device selection, see this tutorial.
I would like to just start fresh and use only the MiniFreak and the Bome Box in this new setup. I’m eliminating the need for an external MIDI keyboard controller for this loop.
The easiest way to start fresh it to elliminate all unnecesary presets and translators. If you still have aliases, you need to remove all references to unused aliases in your project file.
Then start rebuilding any new translators that you want.

Okay. Done! I’m sure you are not super familiar with specific synths (ie MiniFreak, in my case), but I’m wondering if there is something that I would need to change to allow midi translator to swallow notes on triggered events, but allow passthrough of sound on keys that aren’t mapped to carry out specific translator functons?
Also, for my specific use case of only using MiniFreak and Bome Box, would I make the input the MiniFreak and the output the MiniFreak as well, or would the output be to the connect of choice on the Bome Box - say via a MIDI cable?
Your incoming device would be whatever you want to use to send MIDI commands and you outgoing device is whatever you want to use to receive MIDI commands.
If a requirement is for sending MIDI in both directions, then you would need to set up presets, translators, or MIDI thru paths accordinly. I usually do device selection at the preset level.
