How to convert potentiometer signals to encoder?

Hi, I’m a new here and I need help.
ps.sorry for my english is not perfect …

I’m trying to change the potentiometer in my controller to act as an encoder and send only 2 messages: 0 or 127.

The problem is that I don’t know how to write the rule.

The potentiometer sends 128 different messages from 0 to 127.
I want to change this potentiometer so that the rule counts the difference when I moved the position to the right or left and sends the following message:

  • when I move the potentiometer to the left by every single step, I want to receive a midi message “0” with each single step
  • when I turn right, I want a recive “127” every single step

I suppose the rules must read the current position and then calculate the difference if I moved left or right but I don’t know how to do it and I am asking for help.

Thanks for bringing any help!

Hi and welcome to the Bome community!

To get started, please refer to this video tutorial on how to convert a relative encoder to absolute values. If your device is programmable you may be able to download an application made by the device manufacturer to do that. What type of MIDI controller do you have (brand an model)?
