Is my brand new Bome Box junk or am I just crap?

The task,

I think is really simple, on a given button push on an Allen & Heath CQ mixer a DMX light will change colour.

The set up,

A&H CQ mixer hooked to BB via net-work (want to use USB but that simply isnt ‘seen’) then via Din out to a Midi-DMX interface.

So this will work with a translater-pro (running on an attached PC) if the translater is transfered to the BB it will still work (and the PC can be taken off line)

However, if a power cycle is performed on the BB then it wont work any more. And the BB is bricked I can only get back into it if I pefform a network reset via a usb stick into the BB and then run a reset and purge the BB of whatever I loaded onto it.

The USB port of the BB wont ‘see’ the A&H mixer, ever.

The BB will only ‘see’ the A&H mixer if a reset is performed after any power cycle of the BB.

The translater was developed via a CME H2MIDI-Pro and will work, every time, but i wanted a standalone solution and I thought that a BB was the answer.

As i’ve only had the BB for a couple of weeks I can probably send it back to Thomann and get my money back.

Any thoughts?

Hi and welcome to the Bome community!

I’m sorry you are having problems.

The first thing to check is the current firmware versioni of your BomeBox. Make sure it is version 1.6. You can download it here.

Once you have loaded the latest firmware, the next order of business is understanding how your network is setup.

Are you connecting to the BomeBox with your computer via Wireless or via ethernet?

If ethernet, do you have a router that is providing DHCP addresses? Is your computer connected as a DHCP client.
By default, the BomeBox is a DHCP client and your computer is usually also a DHCP client, so a DHCP server would need to be avaiable. This is usually the role of a router on your network.

If you are connecting between PC and BomeBox without a DHCP server, the devices will go into ‘APIPA’ (Automatic Private IP Addressing) mode, which will likely not be compatible with your CQ Mixer. Perhaps this is why you are getting locked out.

If you do not have a DHCP server (usually on your router), then you could setup your BomeBox ethernet port as such by setting it to DHCP Master Mode. If you do this then your mixer and PC will need to be set up as DHCP clients.
Then, with the latest firmware if you go to the BomeBox Allen&Heath page you can enable Allen&Heath and your mixer should be discovered over the ethernet.

Maybe if you describe your network topology, I can assist further. Once all of the network settings are properly configured, we can address the rest of your issues. It is unlikely that you have a bad BomeBox, however. Network configuration is usually the culprit.

If you could tell me the IP address of your computer when hooked to the BomeBox, I can let you know if it is going into APIPA mode.
