Is there a way to rename the Virtual Ports?

My Yamaha stage piano always sends out active sensing and timing messages so I created a translator that filters those out and sends the filtered output via Bome Virtual Port 1. I also have another translator that converts aftertouch messages on my Komplete Kontrol S49 into modulation messages and sends its output to Bome Virtual Port 2.

I was wondering if it would be possible to rename these virtual ports to something like "CP33 Filtered" and "KKS49 AT-Modulation". Right now, all virtual ports are presented to OSX and MIDI apps as "Bome MIDI Translator x". I'd like to create custom virtual port names that are more representative of what my virtual ports do.

I thought I could just create aliases for the Virtual Ports, but those are only visible within BMT itself. Any suggestions on how this could be done?

Hi,

No this is not possible with Bome MIDI Translator Pro.

However stay tuned as we are looking into an extension to Bome Network Pro to add this feature. I cannot proved a timeline for this availability, however.

In the meantime you could probably use something like LoopMIDI, however LoopMIDI ports are different from Bome Virtual Ports in that LoopeMIDI makes 2 calls to the host operating system for any message sent or received where Bome MIDI Translator virtual ports only make 1.  This might have some impact on performance.

Hi, wondering if there’s any update on this.

Hi,

The only names Bome MIDI Translator uses externally are the pre-defined short names and long names as specified in the settings. If you want your own names, you can use Bome Network addon ‘Unlimited Named MIDI Ports’. It can be found here.

If not using MIDI port sharing between computers, you can install Bome Network for free and just purchase the add-on.
