Launchpad with Ableton and Bomes MIDI Translator

https://youtu.be/01VToHXdhtU

Hi, I want to make my Launchpad Pro as game controller like the above YT video.
When I open Bomes MIDI translator only, keystroke functions works fine.
but if I open Ableton Live for light effect, MIDI Translator stops working.

I can see above YT video it says, "same Input both Ableton and MIDI Translator"
I select Launchpad Pro 2 as the input in MIDI Translator but, I can't find same inputs on Ableton Live.
How can I solve this problem?

Hi,

My guess is he did this on a Mac which allows assignment of same MIDI port to multiple applications. On Windows platform, only 1 application can access a given port at a time, so you will need to  route your Launchpad to a virtual MIDI port (IE BMT 1) in Ableton live so that it can read the MIDI signal from Ableton Live.

See attached diagram.

SJC> In MT Pro, once you open your ports , draw a line between the inputs and outputs in the MIDI router

I don’t know I did right, sorry I am bad english. I draw the lines like above your picture.
and in the Ableton,
MIDI From : Launchpad Pro Input Ch.6,
MIDI To : Bome MIDI Translator 1 Ch.1,
MT Pro Log get the Midi signals but keystroke doesn’t work.
And if I choose MIDI From : Bome MIDI Translator 1, it doesn’t catch any signals.

Hi, If you need more than simple MIDI routing (IE changine CH 6 to CH 1, then you need translators for that instead of just a simple line through as I showed. The simple line method is just for routing MIDI but not translating one MIDI message to another.

sounds like too complicate…
maybe I should give up light effect, thanks anyway.

Hi,

It is pretty straightforward to create translators to translate from one channel to another

------
Translator : Note on CH 1 to 6
Incoming: Note-On MIDI Channel 1 any note set to pp any velocity set to qq
-------

-------
Outgoing: Note-On MIDI Channel 6 note pp velocity qq
Options: Swallow
------

Then do the same for note-off. Make sure you have selected the proper input and output ports.
