I have encountered a strange issue when using ReaLearn together with Bome MIDI Translator Pro, and I’m trying to determine whether this is expected behavior or a configuration problem.
My setup uses Bome MIDI Translator Pro to generate MIDI messages on multiple MIDI channels (Channels 1–16).
Everything works correctly until I create any MIDI mapping in ReaLearn.
After ReaLearn has at least one mapping active:
CC messages continue to work correctly on all MIDI channels.
Note messages stop working on Channels 2–16.
Only Note messages on Channel 1 continue to pass through correctly.
The interesting part is that if I remove the ReaLearn mapping (or simply stop using the ReaLearn plugin), all note messages on Channels 2–16 immediately start working again without changing anything else.
So the issue only affects Note messages, not CC messages.
Has anyone experienced something similar?
Is there a ReaLearn option that causes note messages to be forced to Channel 1, filtered, or intercepted after MIDI Learn is used?
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I suspect that some of the MIDI messages are getting through to ReaLearn directly, bypassing Bome MIDI Translator Pro. I’m not sure how ReaLearn decides which MIDI ports to use.
Make sure all MIDI message going to Reaper come in through a Bome Virtual Port and disable any other direct connection by disabling their input within Reaper.
Otherwise, I might need to look at your project file.

I’m using only the Bome Virtual MIDI Port as the input to REAPER.
I double-checked my REAPER MIDI device settings, and there are no hardware MIDI inputs enabled. ReaLearn is not receiving MIDI directly from any physical device.
The MIDI routing is simply:
Controller → Bome MIDI Translator Pro → Bome Virtual MIDI Port → REAPER → ReaLearn
What makes this confusing is that:
If I don’t create any mappings in ReaLearn, note messages on all MIDI channels (1–16) work correctly.
As soon as I create a ReaLearn mapping, only note messages on Channel 1 continue to work, while Channels 2–16 stop working.
CC messages on all channels continue to work normally.
So it doesn’t appear that REAPER is receiving MIDI from the wrong port, because the behavior changes only after ReaLearn has an active mapping.
If this doesn’t sound like a known issue to you, I’m starting to wonder whether ReaLearn simply takes control of the incoming MIDI stream once it has active mappings, and that there may not be a practical workaround for this behavior. At this point, I can’t think of anything else to check.
