I’m sure it’s a basic issue due to a missing basic step.
I create a bmtp file with BMTP (that works from within BMTP)
I can upload it to the bomebox, no popup about anything wrong
I select the file once uploaded
On the main page : ‘Midi Translator : no project’
I tried to hit restart on the midi transator page, I unplugged et plugged the bomebox from the charger
No success
OK, it looks like you have a bunch of aliases defined and a bunch of input and output ports opened. You have 2 translators and no MIDI thru paths.
What port do you want to received MIDI from on your BomeBox and where do you want the translator to send it?
Could you show me the MIDI Ports screen on the BomeBox? and also the MIDI routes screen?
These tutorials should be able to help you understand how to set things up.
Aliases are meant to give interal abstract names to the physical ports on whatever you have your project loaded. The physical name may be different on different computers or on BomeBox.
You can learn more about aliases from this tutorial.
Translators can be set up to only look for triggers on given input ports and output ports.
For more information about device selection, see this tutorial.

Also, it looks like there is no signature in the project file which means you must be using the trial version of Bome MIDI Translator Pro . Projects created with the trial version cannot run on BomeBox. (although you should see an error message).

What the hell ???
My choice of purchasing a bomebox relies entirely on its hability to translate midi messages to multiple devices at once.
The download page of BMTP does not warn about such limitation at all ! Only the 20 minutes limitation. Neither does the bomebox product page. Saying that the translator is sold separately does not make the trial version unfit to upload running file to the bomebox !
The routing shown on your computer is for routing on your computer only and not the routing on your BomeBox. To see the routing on you BomeBox you would open the BomeBox web interface in your browser.
As I said, earlier, your project file that you posted does not contain a signature so you likely created it with the free trial version of Bome MIDI Translator Pro which does not support signatures that are required to run projects on BomeBox,
There are no limitation other than the 20 minute timeout of running the trial version on PC or Mac, however the runtime on BomeBox does require a licensed version.
Does the BomeBox include a license of MIDI Translator Pro?
The BomeBox is priced very competitively, so it does not include a MIDI Translator Pro license. The BomeBox has a lot of functionality available in the web config, so for many use cases, the advanced mapping capabilities of MIDI Translator Pro are not even needed. And if you’ve downloaded or received a Bome MIDI Translator Pro project file, you can run it in the BomeBox without owning a license of MT Pro.
Do I need a license of MIDI Translator Pro for running a project on the box?
No, unless you want to edit it or create one from scratch. If you got a MIDI Translator Pro project file, for example from your technician or downloaded on the Internet, you can upload it to the BomeBox and it will run even without a license of MIDI Translator Pro. You only need a Bome MIDI Translator Pro license if you want to create or modify project files. Project files created with the Trial version cannot be uploaded to the BomeBox.

I honestly didn’t see the FAQ as it is at the bottom end of the product page.
You really should link to it at various places in the page. Not telling for me, I’m already screwed (and pissed), rather for upcoming customers.
firmware is 1.5.4, I updated as soon as I got it this week
Sorry to note your frustration! We try hard to explain what you get and what you don’t before you purchase a product from us. I do think that saying that the BMTP software is sold separately does imply that it is sold, not given out for free.
However, you have a very good point here:
We’ve always considered that as a restriction of the BomeBox, not of the trial version of BMTP. But you’re absolutely right. I’ve added that information to the BMTP product page:
I’m glad you did modify the Web page for more clarity.
Thanks for the lesson I know what ‘sold’ means. Again to me that doesn’t have anything to do with the limitation of running files on the bomebox, but only with the 20 minutes limitation.
I guess we’ll never agree on that, but sadly not agreeing with your customers doesn’t make you rightful from a commercial point of view.
So thank you for your attention to this kind of situation.
Steve proposed a one time signing to a bmtp file. It won’t be of any use to me as the bmtp file would be constantly evolving and would demand new signing constantly.
The only thing I’m thinking of would be then a discount. More than 20% if I may, as 20% coupons are already easy to find.
As disappointed as I was I definitely must admit that you care for your customers.
Again thanks for your time, your reactivity and your attention.
Steph
Hi Steph,
thank you for your balanced words. Just one clarification: I fully agree with that statement:
‘The customer is king’ (or queen) is our golden rule. We make our products for you, not for us or for a fantasy world. What I wrote about ‘sold’ was not meant as a lesson, but just as an explanation why we wrote it that way. Clearly, you did not read enough into it, so we will go back and reformulate to make it more clear (but that will take some time).
I’ll contact you for a possible discount as a thank you for bringing up these deficiencies in our communication.
Thanks for your reply. Rest assured I’m well aware that the bomebox and software are high quality and should meet my needs perfectly. Please don’t take my statement ‘customer is king’ as a lecture, but rather as a (sad) observation of reality.
Thank you also for your discount offer. I don’t want to pressure you but if your are really willing to do so, now is a good time, as for now I’m the owner of a bomebox I can only use for testing purposes once connected to my computer and BMPT, and sadly would stay home when I’m on gig. Otherwise I’ll go for a 20% coupon, which I can find anywhere on the internet. It’s more a question of my initial surprise and principle.
