Port routing question

No, everything goes through at the fasted speed the transport supports. Buffers are automatically set.

Yes, that is why 2 ports are needed.

It would be great to separate the terminology for new users. To define midi port from midi points to make it clear.

I know of no substitute for RTP-MIDI on android. In fact I haven’t even played with RTP-MIDI on Android, however if it works, you could always install on Windows and then use the Bome MIDI router to route to virtual ports that can send to RTP-MIDI to bridge the MIDI networks.

I believe Android does not have the capability to add virtual ports. I imagine at some time this will change and that eventually Bome may support Android as well, but I know of no definite plans for this.

Yes, this was a point of confusion for me as well.

We are actually creating MIDI Ports which have 2 components in Bome Network

  • Endpoints
  • Routing

Together they constitute working ports.

The key difference between this and other implementations is that with the advanced routing option in Bome Network, you can do many more flexible and complex things.
Other implementations limit themselves to pipes only.

I have thought about having the ability to set up automatic routes as pipes when creating the new endpoints as it would reduce one step but it could also create further confusion for the situation we just created.

Android has midiHub app. It allows to use BLE midi, rtpMidi, routing, rules. Virtual ports can be created in android. I wish that Bome developers will communicate with midiHub developers, and make Bome projects to be ported to midiHub on Android. That would be great!

Windows 11 has rtpMidi app. It allows to use midi over network.

So I use both app. But for unknown reasons I am facing with data loose… I need to investigate more to figure out, what is happening exactly… and rtpMidi app is created by developers of loopMidi, so I suppose that it might be an issue… So I am trying to find a substitution for rtpMidi app on windows.

It would be great if Bome will implement BLE, rtpMidi inside Bome Network or Bome translator.

As I know - now there are only 2 options for BLE midi on windows: midiberry and sinco connector app.

And only one app for rtpMidi: rtpMidi app.

But they all work not flawlessly…

Bome Network is what we created as RTP-MIDI did not meet our requirements. I’m also hoping that at some point in time, we put Bome Network on Android.

I note, your request and will pass it on.
