Hello! I am looking for a product that will recognize Song Position Pointer from a Roland SBX-80 and output MTC in real time. Is this something MIDI Translator or Translator Pro will do?
The desire is to have the SBX-80 chasing SMPTE printed onto a Tascam 38 analog tape recorder.
Well, the answer is "I’m not sure". I know that if we can use clock pulses to generat MTC by counting clock signals. Every 24 clock signals is a quarter note. Bome MIDI Translator Pro doesn’t know the full time however so we would probbly just start counting relative time from either a Start command or a SPP command and start counting clock signals from there. The SPP value is based on 16th notes from the start of a song. Again, that just tells the playhead where to move and after a Start signal is sent, we would assume to start counting from there and send out MTC (not full frame count but relative frame count) from there. I suggest you give the trial version of Bome MIDI Translator Pro a try. It is fully functional but times out every 20 minutes. I think there may be some examples of others that have generated MTC from Start message and clock pulses from the. If there are no clock pulses, however, we would have nothing to count.
You can download a trial copy of Bome MIDI Translator Pro here.
