My Roland MC-909 has certain pots that output a smaller than 128 CC value range, for example, 14-114.
I want to translate that limited range into a full CC range of 0-127.
Two questions:
1:
I watched your tutorial on doing this in the opposite direction, but I’m having trouble wrapping my mind around this when starting with a limited range.
Also, some pots are SysEx, and I’m curious if it’s the same concept for those as well, since BOME seems to pick up “pp” for those too, when I detect the MIDI.
And question 2:
Will this translation maintain any kind of 1:1 relationship in its resolution or will I lose a bit of that, especially when starting with a CC range of let’s say 45-75 and wanting to extend that to 0-127?
Yes if the SysEx has an imbedded value that you want to extract, then just mark it as a variable. It is best to use local variables whenever possible so that it does not affect other translators.
Although the range is translated, the conversion will likely skip some values in the calculation so you will not get better resolution. It will simply more closely match whatever the receiving device expects.
