Send midi commands from Bandhelper to A&H SQ5

Hi Forum.

Has anyone successfully managed to send a MIDI beat clock from the BandHelper app through a BomeBox to an Allen & Heath SQ5 mixer?

We’ve had no luck so far. But we are able to send other MIDI signals from a connected device to the BomeBox, and from there to the SQ5 - so we know that the connection is working.

BandHelper offers some options for sending MIDI clock, including the ability to send user-defined HEX codes. According to the SQ5 documentation, the TAP tempo soft key (SoftKey 8) can be triggered with a ‘Note On’ message (97 37 7F) followed by a ‘Note Off’ message (87 37 00) on MIDI channel 8.

Is it possible to send these messages directly from BandHelper to the mixer via the BomeBox, or would we need to use a MIDI translation on the BomeBox to make it work?

Thank you in advance.

Hi and welcome back.

If Bandhelper can send the MIDI commands that the SQ5 requires, there is likely no need for a translator. You can just set a MIDI thru path from Bandhelper to SQ5.

With that said, if you need to block other MIDI messages from Bandhelper, or translate some of them, you would likely need to add some translators to either block messages not wanted or translate other message the way you want the SQ5 to receive them.

Anything that is needed for translating or blocking MIDI messages would need a Bome MIDI Translator Pro project file loaded.
