Sincere Apologies to Florian and Steve

For years, I have been complaining to you both, about a problem I thought was caused by something in MIDI Translator. I was experiencing MIDI buffer and queue overruns sporadically, and though I thought I had the problem licked several times, it always seemed to resurface. MT would freeze, causing me to either restart it or in worst case, reboot my computer. When I performed, I was always nervous, afraid of a major disruption.

IT WAS NEVER A MIDI TRANSLATOR PROBLEM… IT WAS MY CLUMSY PROGRAMMING THAT DID IT!

Today I finally found the root of the problem:

I use faders to launch clips in Ableton after they have been cued. The faders do several things here…they turn off the cue signal, activate the tracks, stop the clips, and immediately relaunch them in sync with the clock (in quarter notes), and control the volume of the tracks.

I assumed I needed to receive input from Live when it reached the end of a beat. When MT received that signal, it would enable the relaunching of the clip. That’s what caused the problem. It seems to have been creating a feedback loop under circumstances I still don’t fully understand.

I’ve implemented an alternate way of doing the syncing… one that doesn’t require input from Ableton. The problem is gone.

I’m truly sorry for having put out so much negativity about MT. I suppose you disliked seeing post after post that implied that there was a problem with MT. Your patience with me was remarkable.

My MT program is quite large, and though it’s definitely not optimally coded, it now runs perfectly smoothly.
Thanks so very very much for creating a most incredible tool.
