Software MIDI ports not seen by BomeBox

I am feeding a BomeBox (loaded MTP file) from Max and until today I had just established fixed routes from my Mac to the BomeBox in MTP. Now I wanted to use MIDI port names to make things more controlled. MTP sees all Max ports and I made aliases. But the BomeBox doesn’t list these ports. Therefore I cannot assign MIDI aliases for them.

For testing purposes I established a route from a virtual Max port to the BomeBox and this works, because MIDI routing uses MTP aliases. But the ports themselves aren’t listet there either. Well, I haven’t tested this route yet, I just see it in the BomeBox web interface.

How can I use virtual MIDI ports of software with the BomeBox?

Yes, right now you can use Remote MIDI Direct to see ports attached to the BomeBox, however exposing ports on a computer or BomeBox to another computer is not yet possible and BomeBox does not support virtual ports as they are meant to be application to application.

There are plans to be able to view remote ports on BomeBox but we are not there yet.

I think I can solve the problem with two small MIDI interfaces.

Two Miditech 2x2s, the DIN sockets connected to each other, both plugged into USB. Interface A is the interface for software on the Mac. Everyone else uses Interface B.

That’s a bidirectional bridge with two ports between software and BomeBox, right?

Yes, if you have one. Otherwise, maybe you could try some Bome Network Beta software. I’m not sure it is ready yet, but I can ask Florian about it?

Thank you for the offer, but no, it’s not necessary. I am currently designing my new setup, and for the time being, one port from/to Max via one interface to the BomeBox DINs is sufficient. In the final version, I will either use the new Bome Network software with virtual ports or the bridge with two interfaces.

Peter
