I want to trigger midi software via rs422 output from SONY video switchers and I cannot use GPIOs.
When I connect a rs422 connector between my laptop (running translator) and my SONY video switcher I see the translator log window actually spit out some values followed by the name of the switcher (MVS-8000). The 422 switcher port is expecting to see a VTR and probably some ACKnoweldgement from the non-existant VTR. The video switcher will not generate VTR commands until it gets some ACKnoweldgement in return…
Have you guys heard of anyone doing this?
Any idea what my next move is?
Yes, Bome MIDI Translator Pro can handle bi-directional serial data. The trick here seems to be to understand the protocol that the SONY video switch uses for serial communications (Command/Response messages) along with the baud rate, stop bits and parity settings. If your computer sees the Sony Device as a serial port then that is good news. Are you aware of a communication protocol manual for the switcher? I looked but didn’t find one that had the level of detail we would need. We have connected to other devices that were controlled by serial data.
