Standalone DMX control

I’ll be working with an Allen & Heath SQ Mixer connected to a BomeBox. Is it possible to control DMX lights via BomeBox MIDI?

Does the BomeBox support the SQ USB MIDI connection, or does it only work with their TCP MIDI Control app?

Hi and welcome to the Bome community!

If your DMX supports MIDI (either USB class compliant or MIDI DIN), yes, it should work.

If their USB is class compliant, it should work. You might want to double check this with Allen & Heath.

Finally, if using the BomeBox in standalone mode, then you will likely need to purchase Bome MIDI Translator Pro in order to translate MIDI between devices.

This tutorial should give you an idea on how it is done although we use the network connection to the A&H device.

Steve, first thank you for the prompt reply, and I am very excited to dive into the BomeBox world.

For some reason I missed that a computer host wasn’t needed to connect a mixer to the BomeBox. If that is the case, then USB isn’t needed. Your tutorial link was very informative and easy to follow.

I was watching the below video on setup. This would mean the mixer isn’t on the same network as my main network where I would use the mixer’s mobile apps. I would fix that by setting up a network bridge on the BomeBox, or how would that work?

Yeah MTP would be needed as the ultimate goal for this project is to not require a computer or software to keep the system running.

I got the idea for lighting control after noticing the 4 light scene buttons in these marketing photo of the SQ-Rack and control app.

For self discovery they need to be on the same network. If not, you could always set up routes on your router and then manually determine with Bome Network that IP address you want to connect to.

For development of projects on BomeBox check out this tutorial.
