Thank You! Bome landed me a job last month :)

Super happy tonight as I got Bome to get three way comms working for an analog synth, its desktop editor and Ableton without conflicts, MIDI feedback etc. Now I can play and edit the synth on any of them and get instant control and UI response in all three. Nothing fancy for the Bome experts I’m sure, but the docs said it couldn’t be done and I never found a solution online this effective.

It reminded me I wanted to thank you all for landing me a job last month. I’m a sales engineer in a niche part of the enterprise software world. After 6 interviews for a new gig, they needed a deep-dive hands on demo of industry specfic software - a key part of the role. They assumed I still had access to the software from my previous company, but I’d quit a few months prior.

So I decided to have fun instead. Made up a story that I was a sales engineer for a new conference A/V vendor(obviously they aware I’d made it up). Built out an Ableton set, recorded cheesy background music and tongue in cheek announcements, doing multi zone Audio I/O, lighting, screen controls and importantly - powerpoint - the audience would be slidedeck loving execs. The pitch was “no more complex mixing boards, teams of specialist engineers and miles of cable runs - now you can do it all from a laptop, live!”. Silly, but what the hell.

I initially faked the API parts as I’m no Max4Live genius and only had a couple of days. It was bugging me though, I fucking hate when sales people lie to close deals. Hit up google with low expectations, but instead found Bome. Whaddaya know, between the ease and power of the software and the great content in the docs and forums, I didn’t need to fake a thing. MIDI controlled PowerPoint and automation curves grabbing the focus of a home lighting app window to demo lighting fades, while I was interacting with Ableton, cuing audio, while “selling” features and answering q’s. Couldn’t have done it without Bome, and I got the job offer the next day!

Anyways, thanks again!! I figured this random AF use-case of Bome might give someone a laugh
