Translating midi messages from Launchpad buttons into transport control messages for MPC Live 2 or 3

I’m looking into The Bomebox. I want to be able to control the transport controls in my MPC Live 2 over midi from my Lanchpad X (without dragging my computer out places) because I like the pads on the X, and don’t like the transport configuration on the MPCs. Is it possible to translate midi messages from the Lanchpad buttons for record overdub, record ready, play and stop, or at least from 4 of the pads on the Launchpad X? Thanks!

Hi and welcome to the Bome community!

The BomeBox by itself does MIDI routing only, howeveer it also has the ability to run Bome MIDI Translator Pro projects for MIDI translation. For translation you would need the purchased copy of Bome MIDI Translator PRO to create project files on the BomeBox as the trial copy does not sign the project and the BomeBox will only run signed projects.

As far as what MIDI message the MPC Live requires, you would need to make sure it can process MIDI message so that the project outputs the MIDI message that are output by the project file running on the BomeBox.

Note also, that you still need a computer to create the project file and test it (hopefully in your studio). Then you can upload the project file to the BomeBox and run it there without a computer (for when you are on the road).

If you want to test Bome MIDI Translator Pro prior to purchasing to make sure it will work, you can get the trial copy of Bome MIDI Translator Pro that will run on a computer (but times out every 20 minutes.

You can download a trial copy of Bome MIDI Translator Pro here.

If you can tell me the Launchpad X incoming MIDI message for one of the pads and the resulting outgoing message that you want to send to the MPC , I can provide an example translator and upload a project file that you can test with.

Okay, I bought The Bomebox because I just wanted one. Is that all I need to buy to use the software? I was hoping I could just use the Bomebox and software to identify what midi messages the buttons of the Launchpad X are sending out and then translate them to standard transport commands the MPC recognizes. The MPC hardware can receive these messages: MMC Deferred Play = Play, MMC Locate Zero, then Deferred Play = Play Start, MMC Stop = Stop, MMC Record Strobe = Record (Rec), MMC Pause = Stop, MMC Locate values = Change location in sequence. I want Record, Play Start and Stop. The MPC has Record and record overdub. The record overdub is actually what I want to trigger but I don’t know if it can be toggled over midi. What a headache!

You need to buy Bome MIDI Translator Pro if you want to develop and run translations on the BomeBox. An existing project created with someone elses developed version using Bome MIDI Translator Pro will also work as the paid version is the only version that signs the project. The BomeBox can only run signed projects.
