I have 2 Traktor Z1’s that I would like to use simultaneously with Ableton. As of now, Ableton only recognizes one of them, and disregards the other - in the midi preferences tab, only 1 shows up for the in/out. This is also a common issue for traktor, and discussed in their forum (Traktor has hinted at adding this functionality, no timeline is given and I’m not sure if this only apply to the mk2).
I am wondering if Bome could provide a solution for this. I’m not trying to make a custom mapping, the Z1’s midi mode + Ableton’s midi mapping works great for what I’m trying to do. The issue is just getting Ableton to recognize both. Moreover, I’d be able to use traktors controller editor to change the midi sends from each, so they don’t overlap. Could I use Bome to just give the 2nd Z1 a different “name” so Ableton can see that it’s a seperate controller?
Are special software drivers required on Windows for Z1 MIDI to operate? You can test this out by de-installing any NI drivers and then looking to see if you have access to the MIDI ports on Windows.
In Bome MIDI Translator, are both Z1 controllers recognized after de-installing drivers?
If the answer is yes, then we have a chance. Please show a screenshot of the incoming ports of you Z1 ports shown in Bome MIDI Translator Pro.
Now if the drivers include both audio and MIDI, then de-installing them might also disable the audio, so if you are using as a sound card you may not get audio functionality without the NI drivers.
Bome MIDI Translator Pro cannot rename ports. This is handled by Windows Software, but if you see the port names, we can redirect MIDI to a virtual port and use that in Ableton Live, instead.

Thanks for quick response. Currently on mac BTW. I didnt have any specific drivers installed for Z1, and i do not need the sound card function - just midi.
Unfortunately, it looks like only 1 Z1 shows up in bome. I tried unplugging/plugging different configurations into my USB ports, using a USB dock, etc. Appears like bome receives midi from whichever is plugged in first. The first one plugged in, takes precedence.
Interestingly, i downloaded an NI device updater program, and it recognized both when plugged in at the same time (pic attached). Maybe Z1s are just programmed this way, where you cannot use 2 at once
Well I’ve never seen a situation where 2 midi devices are reported as one. Are they being pluggged in to two separate USB ports or are they somehow daisy chained in some way?
negative, tried plugging both into seperate USB ports, basically every possible configuration lol…
As i mentioned in my OP, this issue is well documented within the traktor program itself. NI has recently acknowledged this, and apparently working on an update - which leads me to believe these controllers were programmed somehow to do this? Where only 1 can send midi info?
Well the only way we might be able to help is to plug them into a different computer or BomeBox and then connect them together using Bome Network. Then the port name for each may be exposed differently but this is kind of a crap shoot and you would need more hardware (either another computer or a BomeBox). If the device has a MIDI DIN port, perhaps you could hook that up to a DIN to USB interface and it would be reported to the OS as a different device name.
