i’m a total noob to the bomebox and it looks very powerful. Basically I have a lot of older vintage synths and want to use them as tightly as possible with my DAW, Cubase. My current MIDIsport 4x4 is ok but not tight compared to say a standalone device like an AKAI MPC.
I was hoping to use the BOMEBOX as a 16 channel MIDI interface.
IS this something that it can do?
Perhaps over ethernet or USB at a push, although i’m trying to avoid using USB
I have not really seen any discussion about this so maybe I have got it wrong.
For BomeBox to computer interface, you can use Bome Network (either WiFi or ethernet). Bome Network is free for communications between BomeBox and other supported platforms.
BomeBox support USB connections and 1 MIDI DIN port. You can either daisy chain your DIN connection for multiple DIN devices, or use a DIN to USB interface connected to the USB port.
To extend the USB connections, you can use a USB hub and it will power USB devices up to 1 amp. After that you would use a powered USB hub.
Since firmware version 1.5, you can connect up to 30 USB-MIDI devices. Also here, each device may provide multiple MIDI ports. For example, you could attach twenty 4×4 MIDI DIN interfaces, giving you additional 80 MIDI IN ports and 80 MIDI OUT ports.
