Virtual ports broken

This was working yesterday. And I most definitely saved my project file. However, booted my machine this morning — no joy. I’m sure it’s an error on my part, but darned if I can figure out what that is.

I’ve reduced my issue to the simplest possible case: mapping “USB MIDI” (my MIDI keyboard) to BMT1. I don’t need any MIDI translating on this — I just want Ableton and Dorico to be able to share input from my MIDI keyboard..

When I open Ableton, BMT1 is highlighted in red, meaning there’s an error. (Sadly, no further info.) Toggling BMT1 inside of Ableton and restarting it accomplishes nothing. When I load Digital Performer | MIDI activity, it shows no activity on BMT1 when I press keys on my keyboard.

The Bome log shows activity from “USB MIDI” when I press keys on my keyboard.

Only Ableton and Bome are running.

This error means, that there is another application using the MIDI port. Unfortunately there is no way to tell which application it is. Please close all MIDI Enabled Applications (including Chrome which is MIDI Enabled and the try again.

The error seems to point to SE 61 so make sure it is disabled in Ableton Live and that only BMT 1 is enabled. If there is another application using BMT 1 you can then try BMT 2.

There are some MIDI applications that insist on enabling all MIDI ports. Make sure that any other application do not have virtual ports enable that you don’t want to use. For this reason, I usually use different virtual ports for different applications.

That was the problem. A background task that wants MIDI got turned on (I have zero recollection of enabling it) but there it is in TaskManager. Uninstalled that app altogether. Now Bome is working.

Thanks!
