Wireless connection between Android tablet and Bomebox?

Hi,

On the road away from my gear. Was thinking of getting a tablet running TouchOSC to communicate wirelessly to an MRCC MIDI router.

I’m interested if, in theory, would this work?

Note: I have an Android tablet in this scenario. I can use an iPad if necessary.

Thanks,

Nick

You could do it with Bome Network on iOS (iPhone or iPad) but not with Android as we currently do not have Bome Network for Android.

Hi Steve,

Thank you for your reply.

I purchased the Bome Network Pro for iPad, the 5 license version.

I’d like to use a license on the iPad, and another on a Windows PC.

Clearly I’m doing something wrong, I have no way to put a license key into the Windows version.

Would you please point me to a post explaining how to do the licensing with Bome Network Pro, an iPad, and a Windows computer?

Thanks

Nick

Hi, the license for iOS will only work for communications between other iOS devices (and BomeBox).

If you need to communicate between iOS and computer (Windows, Linux, or Mac), you will need to also purchase a Bome Network License for computer at our Bome Web Shop.

This is not how we wanted it but Apple doesn’t allow us to sell computer licenses on the App Store and will not allow us to sell iOS licenses outside of their App Store so, we have to sell them separately. This is the main reason we created a 2 device license option for iOS.

There are no restrictions for communications between iOS and BomeBox or Computer and BomeBox, however, as they are covered by Bome Network (non-Pro).

Hi Steve,

Thank you for your reply.

I’m looking for the 2-license version for Windows in the Web Shop, I can only see the 5-license version. Is there a 2-license version for Windows?

I already bought the 5-license version from the App Store for my iPad, it sounds like I bought more than I needed.

What I need is a single license for iPad, single license for Windows. I understand

What are my options? I don’t need 5 licenses for the iPad, I just need the 1.

Can I swap the Apple 5-license version for the 2-licence version, and get the 2-license version for Windows? Or the 5-license version for Windows if the 2-license version doesn’t exist?

Thanks,

Nick

I will defer this to Florian Bomers as I’m not sure of the options. The smallest license for computer is 5. I’m not sure about Apple’s Policy on reversing sales on purchases from the App Store.

Stay tuned. He might decide to take this discussion off-line.

Hi Nicholas,
first of all, thank you for your purchase of Bome Network Pro on iPad. It is very unfortunate that Apple forces us to keep iOS purchases separate from Windows/MacOS purchases, because on iOS, everything has to go through their App Store. We don’t even see who purchases an iOS license. Also, any refunds on iOS have to go through Apple. We try to clearly explain the situation in our shop page:

In general, though, we don’t sell this license individually for one device. The absolute minimum is the 5-device license, and we believe that the price is not very high, even if you only need it for one device. On a side note, selling a 2-device license in our web shop would just not make it worthwhile for us to work on this product at all (and provide support for it). And in case, we do provide discounts for students and other eligible customers on request.

We have no interest in charging customers twice, but Apple does not leave us a choice – that is what we see as the problem here. And as Steve, that’s why we do offer a 2-device license on iOS. So if you can, you should exchange your iOS 5-device license with the iOS 2-device license (via Apple). We will also improve the wording in the iOS app the limitations of the iOS license (in the next version of the app). We’re in contact with Apple, trying to at least allow desktop licenses to be used in the app.

I hope that makes a little more sense…
