2 bomeboxes to one computer

hi i want to make my keyboardsetup more Easy to setup so i was thinking to build a bomebox in Every keyboard with a Dante interface so i have Audio ans MIDI over Cat6 network . Hoe does the computer (mac) see the 2 boxes? Can i use 2 times 16 Channels or how is is useable on the mac?

Hi, you can have for each connection (network, USB or MIDI DIN), 16 MIDI channels. You can connect to multiple computers from each BomeBox using BomeNet. Each computer has a separate network connection which to BomeBox is just another MIDI port. Within BomeBox you can define static routes through the web interface or if you purchase Bome MIDI Translator Pro, you can create projects and upload to BomeBox for custom routing and/or translation of MIDI messages. BomeBox also support QWERTY keyboard input if connected via USB hub.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask if you have any further questions.

Oops I may not have answered you question completely. Right now it is just one connection per computer but I’m hearing that there will be a new version of BomeNetwork that may allow simultaneous multiple connections to the same computer. I will need to check further on the progress of this feature.

Ok. I know that only one connection with a computer is possible for now . But is it possible to route one Bome box to the second and combine them in the range of 16 midi channels to the computer?

Yes, as long as you do not exceed 16 channels which is all MIDI can handle.
You would just set up a routes as follows:

In BomeBox A
Route from Device to BomeBox B
Route from BomeBox B to Device (If you want it to be a receiver as well)

In BomeBox B
Route from BomeBox B to Your Computer
Router from Your Computer to BomeBox B

You could even have another route on BomeBoxA to go to a different computer or device and visa versa.

Maybe on BomeBox A all devices talk through MIDI channels 1-8 and in BomeBox B they all take through 9-16. As long as you have no MIDI channel collisions anywhere you should be OK. If you run out of channels, I have a workaround for that to but it is more complex and beyond the scope of this discussion.

Hi, just for a little more information: we plan to add direct network access to all devices connected to a BomeBox from a computer. That will be available with a firmware upgrade. But we don’t disclose any time frame for this, sorry. So, yes, we see the need for improvement here!
Best,
Florian
