BMT with Allen & Heath ZED-R16 and Pro Tools 10

OK, I cannot do any testing because I don’t have your controller, however if you show me the MIDI log with it set to MIDI CH 16 maybe I can help. Or you can to to Allen&Heath for help since they wrote the script.

I guess I have to figure out how to switch the Allen and Heath to channel 16, or write the BMT file to receive from channel 1.

Not yet. I just figured out how to comment on this thread as an answer. I’m not sure how to change the midi channel. My only guess is to use the DAW control software. Trying that now. I’ll try and get a screen shot of the log.

Here are the latest screen shots of the midi log

looks like the script is set to incoming channel 16 and outgoing channel 1.

The BMT project file is created with a very old version of BMT, and it requires a lot of editing to change the incoming channel. I am working on an updated project file where you can just select the incoming MIDI channel globally.

how could you tell which channel the allen and heath is sending?

Any status with a 0 as the second character is MIDI Channel 1. Anything with F is MIDI channel 16. Example
B0 02 7F (CC 2 MIDI Channel 1 value 127-7F Hex)
BF 02 7F (Same as above but MID Channel 16
90 02 7F (Note-On note 2 MIDI Channel 1 value 127)
9F 02 7F (Same as above but on MIDI channel 16
0-9 MIDI Channels 1-10
A-F MIDI Channels 11-16

Thanks, I reset the allen and heath per their instructions in the documentation on the website, will post new screen shots below. If I could rewrite the script to incoming channel 1 it may work.

Here is the most recent log after reset.

Hi,

Well, I switched the 2nd number in all the midi commands to 0 and it worked. It’s sending on channel 1 now instead of 16. Thanks so much! is there any reason why it should not be on channel 1? One issue I’m getting in PT is that HUI is making it so all my plug in automation is enabled. strange.. maybe i can figure it out. Thanks so much again.

Hi, I’m glad you got it working. I’m not sure why they picked Channel 16 for incoming messages. As far as automation, being enabled, I think you might ask the Pro-tools folks that question as I don’t see that as related based on the Bome project file.

Hi,
attached is a new version of the ZED-R16 project file for MIDI Translator Pro. It has a number of improvements, in particular, you can just set the receive channel in the Init preset (rules section).

I’d be happy if you could give it a try. You will need to edit the rules in the Init preset and set the receive channel to MIDI Channel 1:
gc=0

Thanks,
Florian

Hi, Thanks so much for sending this. I’ll give it a shot! What other improvement should I look for?

Hi,

I want to switch the current pan controls to AUX send controls. Any info on how I'd do that? I guess I'd have to capture the incoming protools info.

Thanks,

Andy

Hi

I'm hoping to change some of the Bome's file. I'd like instead of pans on midi controls 1-12, aux send A's 1-12.

Is there a way to get midi to ping or midi learn? I know there is, but maybe you could point me to a video or instructions on this subject?'

Thanks,

A

Hi again,

I'm trying to edit my Bome's file so that midi controls are functioning as aux send A's in Pro Tools rather than pans 1-12. Any help would be much appreciated.

SJC> I believe that Sends are controlled by the V-POTs however you need to know which HUI command changes the V-POT Behavior from PAN to send. You probably need to first use the "Send" switch command and then push the appropriate V-POT to select then assign to use send A-E. I'm not a HUI expert so am not sure how this would work. Also Pro-tools might have a slightly different HUI implementation than that of an actual HUI device.

Unfortunately, I neither have a real HUI or Pro-tools to do any further testing of this particular functionality.

If you know someone that has a real HUI and uses it with Pro-tools, then maybe they will be able to assist in telling how they do this with Pro-tools normally and what MIDI messages are used.

HEY for anyone still interested in getting the zed r16 working with pro tools I finally solved this nightmare after a month and a half of non stop midi hell

basicallyu I figured out that the template on the A&H website had a major error in it

The timer was set to tick B0 00 7F it should be changed to 90 00 00 and an addsitional translator needs to be added with

in 90 00 00
out 90 00 7F

here ive made my own bome file and it works flawlessly

also I moved all rec, solo and mute functions to separate translators which can be cycled through via the Shift button

there are also other various editable options you can cycle through with the + button and they cycle back to rec solo mute with shift

theres a couple mouse translators I was toying with that arent very functional yet but you can delete those if you want if anyone gets those working let me know lol

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/158-8CWI7josknTRCuOwrSjE9aNHHl2Av?usp=sharing

ive included all the HUI documents and whatever else I came across researchiong this as well

hope this helps someone

if it did since I didn’t get paid for this follow my spotify or social media or somethging lol I put a lot of work into this. Alllen & Heath has already told me they will be changing the documentation on their website since I sent them this.
