Hello my instance of Bome Network keeps changing my computer name. I have typed the name I want in the override section. Usually on a restart or long time without a connection it will revert back. The name is also not consistent. My computer is named just on the MacOS level as MBA and that is also what I have in the network overide spot and it has reverted to internet-1 a few months ago and now it wants to change to MAC.
Again I have specifically gone into the Bome Network setting for name and put in MBA and this still happens.
The first time it happened I was running 1.6 on MacOS26 and connecting to another Mac on Bome Network 1.6, I forget the version of MacOS but also had the reverse issue with that same setup but the other computer was changing the network name to internet-1.
The most recent issue was my Air on MacOS26 still. My mac was still on 1.6 and the M4 mac mini I was connecting to was running MacOS26 but running 1.7 because I had to do a fresh download.
I was also at home connecting to my M1 mac mini on 26 and running 1.7 and my Air changed its name when I opened it up. It does stay stable running any session so it is not changing when awake and running. It just seems to happen when you switch networks almost while bome is running.
In the summer when this was happening on my air it would not change if I didn’t touch it and would stay locked on Internet-1
OK, I’ll look into it further, however I think we discovered this in the past which is why we created this override. I know with Bome Network 1.7.0, we also support the MIDI 2.0 network protocol so perhaps mDNS is messing things up. I’ll check further.
In the meantime, you can read this response from Gemini on how to fix it on the Mac itself.

MacOS has a mechanism to automatically rename itself if it detects a name clash in the local network. It notifies the user and appends ‘-1’ (or higher index) to the computer name to fix this.
Bome Network does not do this, but it picks up the new computer name if you have not chosen your own name in Bome Network.
It seems that you’ve been experiencing this MacOS feature. I have also seen this when there was no other computer/device with the same name.
Except I have always had a name in there and it changes even when I have put the name in. My computer this happened on was also never named internet. I am familiar with how macOS handles that. The issue is that even with the override name it changes.
I’m not sure if you dynamically switch networks while the computer is running, it will reliably work, but it should work when you start and stop the machine. Also, it may change it’s name if you sleep and wake up.
I have yet to reproduce the problem. Have you recently purchased a new router? If the router is restarted, does it fix the problem? Does it happen only when switching networks while the computer is running or wake from sleep or does it also happen after a new restart of the computer? So far I have not been able to duplicate the problem.

The first time it happened technically the computer was on the same network just different WiFi SSIDs This new time it was a completely different network where the name changed, this was not in my home.
It also then happened at my home. That was it going to sleep and waking up.
This is really strange. The general logic is this:
at start-up, Bome Network (BN) checks the host name and a possibly set custom, BN-internal, name.
If a BN name is set, it is used, otherwise the host name.
If the host name changes, and BN name and previous host name were the same, the BN name will be set to the new host name.
If the host name changes and BN name does not match the previous host name, then BN will not change its name
The following should never cause a change of the BN name:
changing networks (like going from Ethernet to WiFi, or plugging into a different network)
sleep mode
restarting the computer
MacOS (sometimes) and iOS/iPadOS do not allow an application to read the actual host name. In those cases, BN only sees something like ‘iPhone’. Maybe ‘Internet’ is also such a fake hostname provided by MacOS?
NB: I have applied for an exception to this rule with Apple, but they’ve denied that twice.
We don’t have any other reports that this mechanism would not work, so it seems like a problem that only occurs in your particular environment. Any further info is highly appreciated. To give us a bit more clue, would you please:
