ProPresenter Bome Translators fail connections

I am using ProPresenter with BMTP, and occasionally, for no apparent reason, MIDI signals stop transmitting over the BOME Network. Sometimes it may be that ProPresenter suddenly stops sending to BMTP, and sometimes it is BMTP that is not sending out over the BOME Network.

To monitor the latter, I want to set up a heartbeat to send from Mac1 to Mac 2 so I might see on Mac 2 when it is no longer receiving a signal, because the network has failed.

Regarding why the connection between ProPresenter’s outgoing IAC driver signals stops being received by BMTP, I am open to suggestions.

Any help with these two issues would be appreciated.

Hi,
You might want to set up a repeating timer in Bome MIDI Translator Pro to send active sensing (hex code FE). Active sensing is normally sent every 300ms. Of course your receiving app would need to monitor the incoming signals to determine if active sensing is no longer received which would flag that you need to take action.

For taking automatic action, we would need to determine the cause to determine what could be done.

I assume you are on Bome Network Pro version 6.1.

If the network is failing, you should already be getting a popup that the connection is broken.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the quick response. I assume you meant Network Pro version 1.6? Yes, I have that. For now, the corrective measure on both fronts is to close Bome Network, BMTP, and ProPresenter. Doing that gets everything back up and running.

To your point about a Network fail popup, That’s just it, I don’t get any pop-up that Bome Network has failed and, in fact, it will still say connected but the MIDI signals are not received by any of the other four MacBooks on the Network, so I must assume the BMTP output port is getting hung up somewhere.

Can you offer any translator help on setting up an active sensing hex? I’m not sure how to do that.

Thanks very much.

Randy

Hi,

In order to see what is happening could you maybe post a copy of the BomeNetwork log file? See these instructions.
We have not experienced this.

To set up a timer, you can have a translator with an incoming trigger with project open and an outging action of repeating timer
‘Send Active Sensing’ every 300ms.

Then a nother translator with incoming trigger of Timer "Send Active Sensing, with an outgoing action of Raw MIDI FE sent to the Bome Network port you are sending to. This would be on a translator on the sending machine.

Edit - You also may need to disable sleep mode on your Mac’s

Yes, I will post the log file next time this happens. I checked it yesterday, and it appears it is overwritten each day you open the program. So, next time this happens, I will post it here.
