(Windows 11 / MIDI Translator Pro) MIDI Ports not recognized

Hi everybody.

I’ve used MIDI Translator for a long time, Pro since a few years ago, have always really loved this software! But now having a very frustrating problem, and seeking help.
It’s been awhile. This is my first time using MT on win11, brand new computer.

MIDI Devices:
Korg padKONTROL
Korg nanoKONTROL2
Boss Katana (guitar amp, used for USB audio in)

The latest drivers installed. At first, the Korg devices weren’t showing in Ableton, but after doing the “registry edit fix”, they are.

The Boss Katana is the only device that MT recognizes. I tried MIDI connecting padKONTROL to the Katana, and got no activity in MT, and think that maybe the MIDI IN on the Katana is not going through the amp, to the computer.

((The “registry edit fix” means that windows has slots for each MIDI driver in the registry, but in recent years only uses slots 0-9. If your Korg devices are at 10 or higher, you have to manually change it in regedit, put them inside 0-9. I tried putting an alias for the bome driver in the 0-9 range, but no dice. The Boss Katana isn’t within 0-9 and is at least recognized by the computer))

Has anyone had this problem of MT not recognizing a MIDI device/devices and come to a solution?

Thanks

Hi and welcome to the Bome community!

I recommend you look at this posting. For me, it as been the best way I’ve been able to deal with the Korg Driver problem of not recognizing more than 10 MIDI devices on a system. I also doesn’t require messing with the Windows Registry which I generally to only at last resort.

Hey Steve, thanks for answering.

I did that already, and it didn’t work.

It’s only the Katana showing

Show me a screen shot of your device manager MIDI ports.

Here is a partial list of mine so that you can see where to find them

Maybe by mucking with the registry directly things got mucked up.

Also, do you happen to be on Windows ARM or are you on X64?

Before I mucked with the registry (I noted everything down, so I can “undo” it) it wasn’t working either. I mucked out of desperation!

Thanks for your screen shots!

From your posting, you are still using the Korg Drivers. If the driver name starts with ‘Korg’ you are using the Korg Drivers. Please change them to the generic Microsoft driver and try again.

Refer again to the other post for exact instructions on how to do this. Keep also in mind that periodically Windows updates drivers and might change it back to the Korg Driver again. I haven’t found a way to stop that other than not allowing System Updates.
